Update on the Maryland Environmental Human Rights (MDEHR) Amendment
The proposed MDEHR Amendment (SB783 in the Senate, HB596 in the House) is progressing quickly through this legislative session. SB783 has been assigned to both the Judicial Proceedings and the Education, Health, and Environmental Affairs Committees in the Senate, and we are awaiting hearing dates. There is a hearing on HB596 on Wednesday, Feb 23 at 1pm in the Environment and Transportation Committee in the House. Here is how you can help us with that hearing:
- Written Testimony for HB596 must be submitted Monday, February 21 from 10am to 3pm. Here is a link with information on how to submit written testimony. Here is the link to the Amendment Toolkit with talking points about the amendment.
- Write your State Legislator in Support of HB596/SB783 We need 60% of the House and Senate to ultimately pass this amendment. That is a lot of votes! Please write your state legislator now to ask for their support in passing HB596/SB783. You can use our updated letter campaign here.
- Attend the MDEHR student rally in-person in Annapolis or virtually on ZOOM February 18 at 3 pm. Please RSVP.
- Follow MDEHR on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. Help us expand our reach by liking and sharing our posts with your friends and followers.
Do you have questions about the amendment? Matt Littleton, Environmental Attorney and an MDEHR Advisor, is willing to answer legal questions from the virtual floor on Monday, February 28 at 7pm on Zoom. Please RSVP to reserve your seat
